Quarterly statistics provide positive outlook
27/11/2009
Employment figures for the last quarter have shown signs that confidence could be returning, it has been claimed.
Kevin Green, chief executive at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, said during the three months to September 2009, the UK saw its smallest quarterly increase in unemployment since the start of recession.
He commented: "We're just starting to see growth in vacancies and placements in both temporary and permanent positions. I wouldn't say there were huge volumes coming through but it is certainly slightly better."
Mr Green added many companies are thinking of lifting recruitment freezes and as a result, the market could soon see a rise in job availability.
According to research from the Confederation of Business Industry and recruitment expert Harvey Nash, employers are keeping a tight rein on pay, but recruitment freezes are starting to thaw and some of the dramatic changes made to working patterns during the recession are now being eased.
